AHA!

3 moments that stuck out during the quarter that i thoughly enjoyed was watching "this is not yet rated". i was so surprised and entertained on how they rate movies i had no idea. i definitely thought it was cool how they did the whole investigation, that entertained me the most.
another aha moment i had was playing jeopardy in class, i never laughed so hard in class just seeing how competitve my colleagues were yet everyone was having a good time. it was a good study tool and a good way to socialize and network throughout the classroom.
next was not neccessarely one specific momment, but it was sitting at the table i sat at. meeting Enrique, Adam and Zalette. we had really good conversation and also had some good laughs, it always helps meeting great people you can network with in class, it definitely helps and makes the classroom a more fun place

basically, Simon was sued by the British Chiropractic Association over an article he wrote in The Guardian, and Simon has appealed, which is what today’s case was about.

Body image in the media has had a huge affect on the way male and females of all ages treat themselves. the media put an image in the mind of society that females and males have to look a certain way to be successful. I will be focus on the male spectrum and expressing the dangers that individuals put themselves through just to obtain this "look" that the media portrays us to look like.

Social Networking Websites

While searching for social networking websites on wikipedia.com, they had a list of 178 social networking websites. I do not spend too much time in front of a computer so I am not sure if wikipedia.com is leaving any sites unlisted. I am a frequent user of facebook.com, I used to use myspace.com but I found that facebook.com is a lot easier to network yourself in a lot of different ways. I use this site to keep in contact with distant friends who have moved away or just off to school in a different state. I also use it to stay connected with local friends with simple updates and it also allows me to know how people are doing throughout their day if I log on frequent enough. I find it crazy that people are starting to update more frequent everyday. The latest aspect that surprised me was that some friends are updating their status via XBOX and/or Play Station 3. so as they are in the middle of a game they can check or update their profile from their game console. I remember when I was attending school in Chico, California some of my friends were getting prepared to throw a pretty huge party one night and they decided to post a bulletin on myspace.com so everyone of there friends was aware of the party and where it was being held at. Soon after posting the bulletin the Chico police department showed up at the door early in the evening warning them about the consequences that will be presented to them if they follow through and throw their party. So this showed that law enforcement and the government monitor these sites very carefully. And that was the biggest result of something happening due to the exploitation of a social networking site.

The Explanation: America's first honest diet magazine

Title of magazine: The Explanation

Concept- “The Explanation” is a health magazine that emphasizes on obese America and not only the obese but anyone who feels they are “a little fat”, or even just out of shape. “The Explanation” differs from other health and diet magazines because we elaborate on how we have become the most obese country in the world and things you can do to change your life for the healthy better. We go on to explain the numerous body types to where any individual can relate to and explains how their body has become the way it currently is. And instead of just giving you information on a diet we explain what foods impact you in what manor and a valid scientific break down of what your body is doing to fix itself (with the help of you!).

Readers- Since our concern is a nation-wide problem we are targeting male and female readers from high school kids to the retired people of our country and everyone in between. No matter how rich or poor you are there will be tips for everyone to pick up on and exercise them into their daily lives. Ultimately the individual would have to have an incentive to want to change their quality of health and lifestyle in order to purchase this magazine, otherwise it is pointless.

Competition- It is very simple. Every other health/ diet magazine simply states if you eat this and don’t eat that you will get these results, leaving the reading with no explanation of how this actually happens. And if the person doesn’t get the results they were promised, a lot of Americans give up right then and their. Not “The Explanation” readers! As they read they will have an explanation for how everything works, the food science and the how the body works. And if certain results don’t take place as soon as they thought, their will be more explained and be given more alternatives to try something new that their body can adapt to. And you are not going to have to be a chemistry expert to understand. Our writers will break it down and give simple examples that the average educated can interpret easily

Advertising- Numerous gyms such as 24 hour fitness, Gold gym, Global Fitness.
Organic food distributors such as Whole Foods Market. Also nutritionist and dietitian practitioners. And numerous supplement company such as Gaspari Nutrition, Advanced Genetics, Beverly International just to name a few.

Articles-some article we would have in our opening issue would include:
* Fast food and how it has affects our nation
* A simple food replacement (i.e. instead of a hot pocket eat a piece of fruit)
*How the human body operates
*Foods that fuels the body in the healthiest way
*The importance of daily exercise

Cover- The cover of the first issue would include pictures of the average Americans and not some perfect body model or the buff health nut. It would include motivating quotes and pictures of healthy foods that look and taste delicious! (Because they are). we are against the trade of deceiving images. We tell it as it is!

Motivating Books

“10 things you should know about the CREATION vs. EVOLUTION DEABTE” by Ron Rhodes
I enjoyed this book because I was raised attending Christian church and always learned about God and Jesus Christ and meaning behind it all but as I got older and more curious about the other side of things, especially being a college student and taking science courses you soon start to question a lot about religion and this book explains key points very well. EVOLUTION vs. CREATION

“The Moral Animal” by Robert Wright
This book is written from an anthropological perspective and explains us as humans and reasoning for the way we act and live our lives. I picked this book up because I am very interested in the human body and mind and this goes so far back in time and will compare other species to humans and you really get to know yourself a little more by the end of this book. The Moral Animal

“Dire Predictions: Understanding Global Warming” by Michael E. Mann & Lee R. Kump
My personality forces me to get a better understanding of everything that is put in front of me. And being a consumer in today’s world and a part of the species that is ruining the planet we live on needed a better explanation of global warming. This book makes great references and makes all aspects of global warming easy to understand by all.
Dire Predictions

Media Impact

Does listening to atrocious lyrics at a certain age reflect on the actions that an individual commits? The individual differences theory predicts that people with different characteristics will be affected in different ways. I cannot agree with the explanation of that theory enough. For example, I have listened to my fair share of explicit lyrics that I am sure my mother would not approve of due to the crimes described and sexual acts taking place within the music, and my life actions have never reflected in the description of the music I have listened to. On the other hand I can remember going to high school with kids whose actions very well reflected from the music they absorbed. I think it comes down to the integrity of the individual. Overall I do think that if they filtered the music that is available to young people it would make a difference in the world, at least in our country.

Absorbing the Media

I have been exposed to many forms of media throughout the years. Most of my life, I have always enjoyed reading about professional athletes. Whether it is an autobiography about their life or about what they did in their previous games. I am very familiar with the newspaper and sports magazines. Also within the newspaper I read numerous articles, anything from a murder story to reading about a local charity that is going on in my local area. And of course being raised in this thriving generation, I continually have an eminent amount of exposure to the internet. The internet is my main source of news and media for sure. Me and millions of others log onto the internet numerous times per day and are exposed to an abyss of news, music, art, people, articles and advertisements that affect the way we live out lives whether we know it or not. Besides the internet I also use a TV occasionally. I cannot relate to the television as much as I can the internet but I have viewed my fair share. But then again my fair share usually coincides with mostly sports media and rarely any of those mind numbing reality shows that are infesting society as we speak. Another form a media that I tend to really enjoy is the radio. What I enjoy the radio for is not music but an actual radio show. Out of all radio shows my favorite show happens to be Dr. Drew Pinsky’s Love Line. I highly recommend that show, not only for the entertainment perspective but from an educational absorbing point of view as well. And that is how I access the media that I choose to be absorbed.
